A comparative study on the practice of judicial appointments in the EU Member States, published by the Centre for European Studies, was presented yesterday at the MCC headquarters in Budapest. The participants were Yann Caspar, author of the study, and Ákos Bence Gát, Communications Director of the Danube Institute. The discussion was moderated by Rodrigo Ballester, Head of the Centre for European Studies.
The speakers shared their views on the rule of law and the appointment of national judges, comparing the situation in Hungary and Poland with that in other Member States. In particular, the double standards applied by the European Commission and the distribution of powers within the European Union were discussed.
A very topical subject, which was of particular interest to Ambassador Christo Stefanov Polendakov of Bulgaria and Ambassador Alfonso Dastis Quecedo of Spain, who honoured us with their presence.
